When presenting Sierra-Hughes with the award, the organizers said: “Karen Sierra-Hughes has been awarded for her persistence in disseminating the integrity of the gaming industry, her tireless work alongside authorities and entrepreneurs, and her dedication to the transparency of gaming operators, as well as for the certifications that corroborate her task.”
The jury was composed of a multidisciplinary group of professionals from gaming regulatory entities, government entities, operators, suppliers, and media from Spain as well as international organizations. When voting for Sierra-Hughes, the jury mentioned her tireless commitment to the promotion of responsible gaming and her dedication to guarantee the transparency and integrity of the gaming industry.
Sierra-Hughes said: “For all of us at GLI, responsible gaming is an initiative that is part of our mission, because it is an essential component of our industry. From Latin America to the Caribbean to Spain and everywhere around the world, we share our experience and support the industry advising on global best practices to ensure their responsible gaming efforts, policies, and programs are world-class and help to support public policy initiatives towards safer gambling and player protection.”
GLI also sponsored the event, and a percentage of all the sponsorships were donated to the non-profit organization Fundación Kirira.
