At the end of February, the Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance published the testing laboratory accreditation rules for the sports betting and iGaming sector. In Ordinance 300/2024, the body also defined the certificate models to be generated for platforms, sportsbooks, online games and live games studios.
eCogra submitted the documentation for accreditation and has now had recognition of its operational capacity as a certifying entity for betting systems, live gaming studios and online games to be used by fixed-odd betting lottery operators.
The publication of Ordinance 588 took place this Friday (12), in the Official Gazette of the Union.
The recognition referred to in the Ordinance is valid for a period of three years, counting from the publication of this Ordinance, as long as the conditions of legal qualification, tax and labor regularity, suitability and technical qualification demonstrated in the Process records are maintained.
“eCOGRA is committed to expanding its international offering into new jurisdictions that regulate online gaming where certification is required. The Brazilian market represents a significant opportunity for the global iGaming industry, and eCOGRA looks forward to supporting new and existing customers entering this market,” says lawyer Udo Seckelmann, who led the laboratory's approval process.
“It was a pleasure for the Bichara e Motta Advogados team to work on this process with eCOGRA and the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets of the Ministry of Finance."
Previously, eCogra had already been approved by Lottopar as a certified laboratory to carry out complete tests on platforms, systems, games and regulations authorized in the state of Paraná.
eCogra was founded in 2003 in the United Kingdom as a self-regulatory body to monitor fair gaming practices, player protection and responsible conduct by operators, suppliers and service providers in the online gaming industry.
Throughout its history, it has embraced new responsibilities to also inspect, test and certify online games, and over time it has gained recognition from the main jurisdictions with regulated gambling throughout Europe, in six American states and in two Canadian states. In South America it is approved in Colombia, Peru and in Argentina it is approved in the City and Province of Buenos Aires, in addition to being also in Mendoza.
