“Weebet closes a partnership with Alea and will expand our game offering to the Brazilian market"

Weebet has been expanding its offering of sports betting and online gaming platform solutions for local and international operators interested in the Brazilian market. In an exclusive conversation with GMB, Thiago Faustino, the company's CTO, highlights the location as the firm's focal point and the importance of recent partnerships with Alea, for distributing a vast portfolio of titles, and Parlaybay, in micro-bets.

GMB – What are the latest developments from Weebet for the now Brazilian regulated market of sports betting and iGaming?
Thiago Faustino
– We've just closed a deal with Alea, a major casino aggregator, which will allow us to expand this vertical in our game catalog, bringing a better experience to bettors and, at the same time, incredible usability.

Regarding the regulatory process, GLI was recently approved by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance, and now Weebet is in the process of certification with them to become a platform in legal compliance with government requirements.

GLI is one of the most recognized global certification and approval laboratories for games. Is Weebet already fully compliant with the rules?
We are in the certification process and meeting all the technical requirements demanded by them. I believe that everything will be ready soon, and we will receive our certificate, thus offering even more guarantees and confidence to the operators who use our platform.

How to approach new operators? What do you have to offer to this market that is not yet in the hands of Weebet?
The main thing we have to offer, and it is a differential for those who want to open an operation in Brazil, is the understanding, taste, and knowledge of Brazilian culture. They are looking for a Brazilian platform with an understanding of this market, which is different from all others. Each region has its particularities, and Weebet, being a platform from here, has this proximity to the players and knows what operators need to win them over. We understand the Brazilian player and their style. That's why both national operators and those coming from abroad seek us out, as understanding the market is fundamental.

Localization is a mantra of the sector, but being a Brazilian company scares some big global operators, or is this no longer a problem from a technological point of view?
From a technological point of view, no, because we can compete on equal terms with international platforms. I think the great differential that impacts them is our proximity to the culture because we are Brazilians and speak Portuguese. Additionally, we offer support in Portuguese, which also sets us apart since many platforms operate in English. Not to mention, we understand Brazilian players.

From a practical standpoint, is it already possible to create this identification with Alea's games, which have an extensive portfolio?
Yes, definitely. Alea will bring a wide variety of games that players are seeking, and with them, we will be able to offer live games and slots, meaning games of the moment that I am sure will be a success for players and, consequently, operators will be very pleased.

We are talking about a local operation and understanding, but with a global reach since Alea has games developed for all regulated markets worldwide, is that right?
Certainly. Alea aggregates several game studios within its catalog, both the well-known and strong ones of the moment and local games. Moreover, many trends come from abroad, and when they arrive here, they are very strong.

Speaking of games that are successful, especially in Latin America, crash games have gained a lot of space. Do you think they are here to stay or is it just a momentary thing?
They are here to stay, especially because we have a new generation of players who want games like Aviator, Ninja Crash, and Mines. It is a trend that has come to stay and only to grow. Another trend is live games, such as roulette, baccarat, and blackjack, which are also attracting the attention of this new generation.

Will the live operation inhibit physical casinos, or are they different offerings?
They are different user experiences. The physical casino has its appeal just like those people who go to the cinema and watch movies and series at home. The pandemic expanded this online gaming experience, which has come to stay, but they are complementary audiences and will continue to be so.

From the operational and platform perspective, is Weebet prepared for this regulated market? Yes. We are waiting for the ordinances - some have already been issued - and we are doing everything possible and demanded by the government to be fully compliant with the requirements so that operators using Weebet do not have any problems with the rules because many of them are already preparing to obtain their licenses in the best way possible. We see the sponsorship of the main betting houses on football clubs, which demonstrates the strength of the vertical, which is a gateway for users to enjoy other forms of entertainment.

Are sports betting, on Weebet's platform, available for the main markets and championships?
It's going full steam ahead. Not to mention that we recently launched an innovation, micro-bets, in partnership with Parlaybay. It was the first deal the company made in the Latin American market, and that's something to be proud of. The customer doesn't need to wait for the end of the game but can make several bets in 5 to 10-minute intervals. This caters to casino bettors who want instant results, especially those from Generation Z.

Has this partnership and the offer of micro-bets been good?
Very good, and people are really enjoying it. Players love this offer in the Brazilian market.
