“Paag has modular solutions that are fully compliant with Finance Ministry regulations”

Paag modularized its payment system and added a series of facilities for sports betting and online gaming operators. CEO João Fraga highlighted in an exclusive interview with GMB that, in addition to being a provider of financial transactions, the company has added compliance tools, Face ID and other solutions to guarantee security and mitigate losses on the part of sportsbooks.


GMB - The grandeur of the booth that Paag presented at BiS SiGMA was a demonstration of the increasing focus on the iGaming market?

Definitely. This year, we were very concerned with bringing a booth that represented the size of Paag, and also showcased our new visual identity focused on portraying Paag as much more solid, secure, and agile for our clients and the betting market, considering the upcoming regulation.
 


Was it not only the rebranding, but also the presentation of new solutions for the market? Exactly. Many people tend to look at regulation as a bad thing, but at Paag, we have the motto that everything new is an opportunity. So, instead of seeing regulation as something scary, we saw various opportunities in the market. We knew that our clients would also be concerned about regulation, so we thought: how can we help them? Because we are not just a payment method, but a company that brings solutions to our clients. We understand that we can bring more tools in various areas to our partners.

In the payment area, we divided it into two products: payment, which is what we already have today and continues to serve the current market, but with many improvements and evolutions from what we presented last year. We also brought finance, which is a banking solution for this market, already aiming at the regulated market and meeting all the requirements of the Ministry of Finance in Law 14.790. We are very focused on helping the operator.

We know how difficult it is and how much this regulation will complicate the lives of partners. With this in mind, we brought Paag Shield, which is a completely new product focused on compliance and fraud prevention. It serves to prevent our client from losing money and assists them throughout the KYC process, facial verification, and liveness check. Everything is integrated into a single product with a very simple delivery that makes life easier for operators.
 


Was the concern not only for the operator, but also for the end user? Does the tool also facilitate the life of the end user?
Certainly. By caring for our partners, we are also attentive to the end customer, as they are the reason our partner exists. We always must aim for the end user and do our best in all aspects. There's no point in having a super bureaucratic process that doesn't help and will hinder our partner from bringing in money and withdrawing it. For this reason, we work very closely with our partners to talk, understand, and develop the best solution for them.

Our solutions are extremely fast, simple, and customizable. With this, each operator can choose when they want to do the Face ID or liveness check. Regulation protects the player, and that's perfect, but it brings uncertainty to the operator. Therefore, we created facilities with a complete solution where they can configure and put what they need at the right time for when the Ministry of Finance releases all the ordinances. The operator can be sure that it is a product that meets 100% of their needs as well as the players, who drive this giant market.
 


Is it total modularity to facilitate both parties?
Exactly. We work as a payment company, but always behave like a technology company. We have very large technological know-how and partners who came from big companies like Banco Neon and Amazon, who work with us to develop these solutions. This gives us the necessary expertise to offer innovative and modular technological tools to serve both the betting sector and other markets in the best possible way and ensure the satisfaction of our partners and their customers.
