Senate approves project that allocates lottery resources to rehabilitation association

The Senate Plenary approved, in a symbolic vote this Wednesday (15), Bill 3,071/2019 that allocates the proceeds from one Loteca contest per year to the Brazilian Rehabilitation Charitable Association (ABBR). Presented by senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the text now goes to the Chamber of Deputies.

Law 13,756/2018 allocates the income from three draws per year, alternately, to the following entities: National Federation of Associations of Parents and Friends of the Exceptional Children, Brazilian Red Cross and National Federation of Pestalozzi Associations.

The approved project increases the number of draws with proceeds donated to four and now allocates the proceeds from one of them to ABBR.

The net income from the draw is the amount left over from what was collected, after paying the prizes, taxes and deducting the cost and maintenance expenses.

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro highlighted the importance of ABBR, a non-profit entity, for the rehabilitation of children, adolescents and adults with physical disabilities. Founded in 1954, the association currently serves 1,200 patients per day, 70% of whom are low-income, according to data provided by the entity.

We are talking about something below R$1 million per year. But, without a doubt, this is needed and will help a lot, because ABBR today survives on parliamentary amendments. It serves thousands of poor people by providing free wheelchairs, prosthetics, rehabilitation and physiotherapy,” said Flávio Bolsonaro.
