SBC Advisory Founder & Managing Director Anton Kaszubowski, who recently chaired a discussion on the M&A opportunities in the market with industry luminaries, sees the potential for organisations investing in the regulating market.
He said: “Brazil is a sports-mad, fun-loving country with a track record for enjoying the services of the gaming industry. So the formal regulating of the sector provides companies with the confidence to invest in what could easily be one of the biggest igaming markets on the planet. The opportunity to get in at the start for a market so big does not come along very often - this is the biggest opening of the past ten years in my opinion.”
SBC Advisory has had representatives in the region for several years and the opening up of the Brazilian market has been long anticipated, but international firms are advised that local knowledge is a massive help for new entrants.
Kaszubowski said: “One of the idiosyncrasies of Brazilian culture is that people build relationships before doing deals, which is why working with people with knowledge in the market will be the key to prosperity. There are lots of opportunities for joint ventures and M&A in the market for ambitious companies, but they need to make the right connections with the right people in order to succeed.”
Along with fellow SBC Advisory Founder & Chairman Rasmus Sojmark, Kaszubowski met with Rio de Janeiro Governor Cláudio Castro earlier this year and discussed the potential for online gaming in the country. The trio met during the inaugural SBC Summit Rio in March, which was such a success that it will triple in size for its 2025 edition.
Sojmark commented: “As underlined by the expansion of SBC Summit Rio next year, SBC is investing heavily in Brazil as we understand the opportunities that arise from the decision to formally regulate sports betting and igaming in a country that embraces the sports and entertainment industries.”
Quirino Mancini, Founder & Business Development Director at SBC Advisory added: “Every jurisdiction has its legal quirks, but the Brazilian legal system is not for the faint-hearted. While there are undoubtedly fantastic deals to be had, it's also important to make sure you have experts on the ground to limit any potential liabilities that could open up.”
