IBJR reinforces the importance of regulation against unaudited games and false winnings

The wave of warnings against promises of false earnings and influencers who advertise unrealistic income possibilities led the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming (IBJR) to present its position on the topic. “It is a basic premise of advertising in the betting sector that games, casinos, slots and other modalities are seen as entertainment products and should never be seen as a guarantee of income.”

The recent news about the undue promotion of unaudited online casino games, with fictitious or false winnings, reinforces the importance of the speed and firmness of the regulatory process in the gaming area, initiated by Brazil with the fixed odds betting sector.

A transparent, serious process with clear rules will certainly curb the advancement of the informal market with harmful practices such as those being presented in the media. A regulated market is necessarily based on audited systems, in which the games offered are certified by accredited, internationally recognized laboratories. This means that the games offered in Brazil will follow the same market standards offered in countries such as England, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, among others.

Likewise, Conar has clear guidelines regarding the dissemination of promotions and advertising for betting described in the text of its "Annex X", including preventing this type of content from being aimed at minors. Preventing this type of undue advertising from happening is the joint responsibility of content producers, betting operators, media groups and the social networks where the videos are broadcast, such as Tik Tok, Instagram, Kwai, Facebook, etc.

It is a basic premise of advertising in the betting sector around the world that games, casinos, slots and other modalities are seen as entertainment products, based on the unpredictability of the result, and should never be seen as a guarantee of income, quick enrichment or potential debt payment solution.

Finally, the IBJR emphasizes that only regulation can create definitive guidelines so that Brazil has the best strategies to deal with problems that only occur today due to the procrastination of the Brazilian regulatory process over the last few years.
