Loterj presented to the Court an appeal against the decision handed down by the Court of the 13th Federal Court of the Federal District, which rejected a request for preliminary precautionary protection, which asked Anatel to issue a subpoena to internet providers so that they could block or suspension of sites identified by Loterj that irregularly operate fixed-odd betting in the territory of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
As the Court of First Instance rejected the request for protection made by Loterj, the municipality appealed the decision and judge Pablo Zuniga Dourado authorized Anatel to promote the verification of the operational legitimacy of the companies appointed by Loterj and, if they are not authorized in Rio de January, order the suspension of fixed-odd betting lottery activities that do not comply with State legislation.
Hazenclever Lopes Cançado, president of Loterj, stated that the TRF's decision “was another great goal for Loterj. The Government of Rio de Janeiro continues to act in defense of the legal market, combating currency evasion, asset laundering and other financial crimes, in addition to combating unfair competition from the illegal market with Loterj accredited companies.”
The judge's decision is restricted to authorizing Anatel to summon only websites that operate within the limits of Rio de Janeiro without authorization from Loterj, which would place them in an irregular situation in the State.
