Still in July, the structure of the Sports Betting Secretariat will be defined, according to the Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, in an interview with “Bom Dia, Minister”. The program is a co-production between the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic and Empresa Brasil de Comunicação.
Fufuca confirmed the creation of the Secretariat, which is being carried out through restructuring in conjunction with the Civil House. “We will turn our attention to the pursuit of sporting integrity. Integrity is what will accompany all sports and betting,” stated the minister.
“People are not expected to create a secretary who carries out supervision, works at the top of the search in a new way, who only does sports work and does not have the integrity and transparency necessary at this time,” highlighted Fufuca.
In addition to working with a focus on protecting sporting integrity and combating match-fixing, the new secretary will be responsible for announcing all operating licenses for betting houses in Brazil approved by the Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance.
In May, the government defined through the MF/MESP/AGU Interministerial Portal nº 28, that authorizations to operate sports betting in Brazil must be approved first by the Ministry of Finance and then also by the Ministry of Sports. In case of disagreement between the bodies, the request will then be forwarded to the Attorney General's Office (AGU) so that it can also present an opinion.
