Hard Rock considers having a casino in the US$ 185m hotel being built in Gramado

A company from Goiás, Mundo Planalto is considering installing a casino at the Hard Rock hotel that is being built in Gramado, in the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul. The firm is carrying out the implementation and will manage the project. CEO José Roberto Nunes considers that the legislation that would allow such an operation is still being processed in the Senate, that is, it needs to be approved and sanctioned.

“Our contract is for a license to use the brand and hotel management. We still don't have casino permission in Brazil and, therefore, we haven't negotiated this in the contract, but the hotel was designed to be an integrated resort and has space, structure and capacity. Furthermore, the brand is among the largest in the world in casinos,” said José Roberto Nunes to Giane Guerra's column in Gazeta Zero Hora.

The Hard Rock Hotel in Gramado is under construction and will have 858 units. The investment will be R$1 billion (US$ 185m). It will be located on an area of ??14 hectares on RS-235 and will have 15 buildings. Delivery of the first stage is scheduled for the end of 2027.

Last month, the global CEO of Hard Rock Café, Jim Allen, visited the Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, and spoke of the interest in setting up casinos in Brazil.

Sabino stated at the time that, if Congress releases the casinos, Jim Allen wants to install other units in Brazil managed by the headquarters itself.

“The project of resorts integrated with casinos, without a doubt, will provide even greater interest among large chains,” he stated.

The CEO of Hark Rock also visited the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas. In a closed-door meeting, they discussed the possibility of installing a chain resort in São Paulo.

Allen went on to say that the hotel's installation in the capital of São Paulo “is imminent” and could be Hard Rock's largest hotel unit in Latin America. The governor of São Paulo reportedly said that the size of the project would be “emblematic.”
