São Paulo to host the Third Sports Integrity Summit next September 5th

The International Institute of Governance and Risk (GovRisk), in partnership with Genius Sports and Entain, announces the Third Sports Integrity Summit to be held on September 5th at the Football Museum in São Paulo. The event will be attended by the Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, as well as athletes, regulators and international experts from the National Football League (NFL), the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and the English Premier League (EPL), among others.

Guests will share best practices in preventing betting-related corruption threats. Topics will include global strategies to detect, disrupt and prevent match-fixing, prevention programs for team and player education, athlete welfare and the role technology plays in identifying fraud.

André Fufuca, Minister of Sports, commented: "First of all, it is an honor for the Ministry of Sports (MESP) to participate in a major event such as the Sports Integrity Summit. MESP understands that it is the role of the State to ensure that the sports ecosystem remains ethical, honest and irreproachable. In addition to financial revenue, sports mobilize and impact the lives of fans, athletes and society in general, who place great trust in the unpredictability of results and the fairness of competitions, and who should benefit from an environment that is honest, healthy, inclusive, safe and formative for their citizenship.

Dominic Le Moignan, Executive Director of GovRisk, said: "We are excited to host the Third Sports Integrity Summit for the first time in São Paulo. The Summit brings together a community of world-leading experts to discuss the most innovative ways to address these complex challenges. This summit represents a crucial opportunity to reinforce and galvanize Brazilian sport’s dedication to fair play and to ensure that Brazilian sport continues to inspire and engage people around the world.

As Brazil’s new sports betting law comes into effect, this summit offers a unique opportunity to unite key stakeholders in addressing critical issues such as match-fixing, corruption and doping. By learning from global experiences and collaborating with industry experts, policymakers and sport representatives, we aim to tackle these challenges head on. Our goal is to ensure that Brazil starts strong with a clear and effective approach, laying the groundwork for a fair, transparent and prosperous sports environment," the executive added.

GovRisk and its partners are committed to fostering a culture of integrity in the sports community. The Sports Integrity Summit will provide a platform for open dialogue, collaboration and sharing of best practices among key stakeholders.

Tiago Horta Barbosa, Director of Integrity for Latin America at Genius Sports, reinforces: "Given that Brazil is currently experiencing a time when the law regulating sports betting is in the implementation phase and operating licenses are about to be issued by the government, I see this summit as a relevant opportunity to discuss ways to increase sports integrity in the country through effective collaboration between the most diverse stakeholders."

"Brazil is in a privileged position and has the chance to establish a global standard of transparency and oversight to be followed by other countries if, as expected, it is successfully completed. Promoting an honest and trustworthy sports environment must be a priority and the creation of a robust regulatory framework from the beginning will therefore contribute to achieving this goal," adds Horta Barbosa.

The GovRisk Sports Integrity Summit focuses on impact and tangible results. The first summit produced a resolution to form a new Brazilian Sports Integrity Association – which has now evolved into the Brazilian Sports Integrity Defense Association (ABRADIE), a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the integrity of Brazilian sports.

ABRADIE brings together representatives from the betting industry, government authorities, players, fans, sports regulatory bodies, teams and legal professionals to combat fraud, including match-fixing. This initiative continues to play a vital role in protecting the interests of consumers, sports leagues and other stakeholders and is a key collaborative partner at this year’s event.

Martin Lycka, Senior Vice President of US Regulatory Affairs and Responsible Gaming at Entain, commented: “With Brazil getting closer to launching a regulated market for sports betting and online gaming, I am very pleased to see the industry and sports regulators, including the NFL, coming together to support the integrity of Brazilian sports and put an end to match-fixing. Preventing match-fixing is one of the key underlying factors of any betting regulation, and we are determined to help make it a success."
