In November of last year, Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF) expressed interest to the Ministry of Finance in operating sports betting and online gaming in Brazil through its subsidiary Caixa Loterias. It was one of the 134 companies that presented themselves to the government.
Now that the sector has become accustomed to the regulations, Caixa is now issuing a call to identify potential suppliers to adopt a platform to serve the new market that is opening up for the state-owned bank.
Caixa Loterias did not define the scope of the supply or the requirements it expects to see met in the call, making it clear only that the Public Consultation 0528/2024 aims to prepare a list of companies interested in providing a platform for the marketing of fixed-odds bets.
It clarifies that the consultation is exploratory in nature and that it does not constitute any commitment to contract on the part of Caixa Loterias.
“For the purposes of this consultation, the fixed-odds lottery betting modality consists, under the terms of Law No. 13,756/2018, of a betting system related to real or virtual events in which it is defined, at the time of placing the bet, how much the bettor can win in the event of a correct prediction,” states the call.
Only after the interested parties have expressed their interest will the subsidiary make available, it is not yet known when, the Preliminary Terms of Reference so that the companies can evaluate the conditions defined by Caixa Loterias.
