Sportingbet, a global operator of sports betting and online gaming and part of the Entain Group, filed its application for a license to operate in Brazil this Thursday (25). The company, one of the pioneers in the sector in Brazil, offers a wide range of betting markets and competitive odds, in addition to online games from the main competitive suppliers.
The license application was submitted to the Betting Management System (Sigap) of the Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance through Ventmear do Brasil, a subsidiary of Entain that owns the Sportingbet brand in Brazil.
“This is an important milestone on our path to participating in the regulated market. We have always been advocates of regulation and we are excited to be part of the first group of companies in Brazil to submit an application for a license. In the end, the winners are our consumers and the market as a whole,” concludes Antonio Forjaz, Head of Entain Latin America (owner of the Sportingbet brand).
In a recent exclusive interview with GMB, Martin Lycka, senior vice president of regulatory affairs at Entain, said that the group's goal was to submit the license application as soon as the Ministry of Finance's accreditation window opened. He also highlighted that the first brand to be seriously presented was Sportingbet.
“Our main brand in Brazil is Sportingbet, so it will continue to lead our Brazilian offering and we will work to make it one of the market leaders,” said Lycka.
The executive did not give up on the possibility of licensing other Entain brands. Among the group's most relevant are Ladbrokes, bwin, Coral, PartyPoker and Betboo. “I agree that the licenses will cover up to three different brands and Entain is considering our strategy in this regard. Betboo, which also operates in the Brazilian market, although not as popular as Sportingbet, could be one of them.”
