The publication covers topics such as identifying suspicious practices, reporting channels, and prevention strategies. The content is presented in an educational manner, with practical examples and clear guidelines to ensure all members of the Brazilian delegation can act preventively and responsively to any attempts at manipulation.
"The launch of these guidelines is a fundamental step in the fight against corruption in sports," said Paulo Wanderley, President of COB. "We want to ensure that our athletes and the entire team are well-informed and prepared to maintain the integrity of the competitions, preserving the Olympic spirit," he added.
The manipulation of competitions is a serious threat to sports, compromising not only fairness and equity but also public trust. Recent cases of result manipulation in major sporting events have highlighted the need for rigorous preventive measures and continuous education for all involved.
COB's initiative aligns with the guidelines of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and other international organizations that have promoted educational campaigns and actions to combat competition manipulation. The manual will be available for download on COB's official website and will be physically distributed to federations and national team athletes after the Olympic Games.
"Protecting the integrity of competitions is protecting the future of sports," concluded Wanderley. "We hope these guidelines will be an effective tool in raising awareness and preventing illicit practices, ensuring that sports remain a celebration of talent, effort, and fair play," stated Schmitt.
With this new measure, COB reinforces its commitment to transparency and ethics in sports, aiming to ensure that the Olympic Games remain a stage for fair and exciting competitions for athletes and spectators worldwide.
