In view of the blocking of several sports betting and online gaming sites throughout Brazil, Fentret – Entertainment, Machinery and Similar Business Forum sent an official letter to the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance to address the issue.
The entity represents entrepreneurs in the entertainment, sports betting, slot machine and similar sectors in the states of Paraná, São Paulo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul and Tocantins.
Fentret reports that it received news from its members that access to websites was blocked by Anatel, following a Federal Court decision that determined the suspension of access only in Rio de Janeiro and that the measure “generated a national blockade,” contributing to “enormous legal uncertainty for companies seeking federal licenses.”
The entity emphasizes that the suspension goes against the regulatory process underway by the federal government and that numerous sports betting and online gaming houses have until December 31, 2024 to submit their license applications.
Fentret fears that “the measure adopted by Loterj may wrongly encourage other Federation Units to practice it.” For the entity, this may result in “disincentives to new investments by national and foreign companies, undermining the purpose of the sector’s guidance”.
Fentret “requests an urgent statement from this Secretariat regarding the measures that are being taken, seeking a solution so that this event is not postponed and that respect for the rules already in force is reestablished.”
