The Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) on the Manipulation of Results of Brazil’s Senate had invited Rodrigo Alves, president of the Brazilian Sports Betting Association (Abaesp), to collaborate with the CPI in understanding and investigating result manipulation practices and how bookmakers work to combat and prevent fraud.
In Rodrigo Alves' view, Abaesp would be unable to provide information on the actions of these companies in combating and preventing match fixing, as per the justification underlying the request for his invitation to testify before the Commission.
According to the president of Abaesp, “all members of the association are individuals and are precisely on the opposite side of this consumer relationship. Therefore, we have no legitimacy or representativeness to address issues such as cooperation mechanisms, or policies and guidelines that govern the actions of these companies in the country.”
The refusal of the invitation was communicated through an official letter sent to Senator Kajuru, president of the CPI.
