For a positive agenda

Procon São Paulo receives IBJR and requests effective consumer education actions

In a meeting with the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming (IBJR), Procon of São Paulo suggests a positive agenda in search of practices that protect consumers from harmful effects, such as over-indebtedness, in online gambling and betting.

The Procon SP Foundation, an agency linked to the Secretariat of Justice and Citizenship of the Government of the State of São Paulo, responsible for the elaboration and execution of the State Policy for Consumer Protection and Defense, received representatives from the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming.

The agency demanded the adoption of good practices in favor of the interests and rights of consumers/gamblers, especially at this time, focused on the promotion of responsible gambling and consumer education programs.

The IBJR agreed with the need for a positive agenda aimed at guiding consumers and gamblers about their rights; responsible gaming practices – required by current legislation, as well as harmonizing and preventing consumer conflicts in this market segment.

One of the goals of Procon-SP is to develop and implement consumer education actions in all media, advertisements, actions with influencers and any others, in order to guide consumers about how the services work and their risks, such as over-indebtedness, as well as the prohibition and risks to children.

The agency is awaiting feedback on these initiatives and continues to act within the scope of its attributions. To date, Procon-SP has already held internal training seminars for employees on the subject and created a specific link to receive complaints against gaming platforms.

In addition, it has proposed initiatives in conjunction with Senacon, Associação Procons Brasil, Associação Procons Nordeste and Procon Carioca, seeking to implement mechanisms that comply with the Consumer Protection Code and the recently approved legislation for the sector.
