Grupo Esportes da Sorte requests authorization to operate sports betting and iGaming in Brazil

Grupo Esportes da Sorte has taken another step towards becoming eligible to operate sports betting and online gaming from 2025, when the market will be regulated in Brazil. The company submitted the request to the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) this Friday (16). The petition is the 30th from the Betting Management System (SIGAP) and also includes Onabet.

Active since the beginning of the process of regulating sports betting in Brazil as one of the leading companies in favor of this movement, Grupo Esportes da Sorte understands that the new rules will enable issues such as maximizing employment opportunities, the emergence of new courses, the possibility of bringing more credibility to the game, in addition to security for companies and bettors.

Submitting the authorization request is the first step for companies in the sector to be able to operate in the country. This is because as of January 1, 2025, all ‘Bets’ -as operators are called in Brazil- that wish to operate in the national market will need to be authorized.

They must pay R$30 million (US$ 5.5m) for the grants, and comply with requirements such as high economic and financial capacity, having headquarters and a service channel for bettors in Brazil, adopting good advertising and publicity practices, integrity policies, among other topics.

“We celebrate this moment in which we are ready to operate in a regulated market in Brazil. It will be a milestone that will bring more credibility to the segment, leaving only companies with an impeccable reputation and that adopt best practices,” says Darwin Henrique da Silva, CEO of Grupo Esportes da Sorte.

He points out important advances in regulation with clear rules and a lot of responsibility. “Compliance, fraud prevention and the promotion of responsible gaming are very important aspects, since gaming is a form of entertainment and must be approached responsibly,” he states.

The latest guidelines for requests for authorization for bets are contained in Ordinance SPA/MF 827, published in May of this year, which established rules and conditions, throughout the national territory, for obtaining authorization for the commercial exploitation of the fixed-odds lottery modality by private economic agents.

The document established that companies that sent requests within 90 days of the publication of the ordinance - the deadline for which is August 20 - would be sure to receive a response from the government by December 31, 2024, the last day before the start of the regulated market.

By submitting the request at this time, the company ensures that the approval of the license by the Prizes and Betting Department of the Ministry of Finance will be published by the end of the year, which will be the milestone for the transition to the regulated market in the country.

In addition to Esportes da Sorte, the request also includes the operation of Onabet, an online betting platform that is part of the group.

Esportes da Sorte has been a leading player in the online gambling industry since 2018 and is one of the leading companies in the sector in Brazil. In addition to sponsoring some of the country's top teams, with five clubs in the Brazilian Championship Series A (Corinthians, Palmeiras, Grêmio, Athletico and Bahia), the company is also present in sports competitions and broadcasts.

For the Olympic Games, for example, it sponsored Cazé TV and acquired sponsorship quotas for broadcasts on Globo. The company also has a strong presence in entertainment, with sponsorships for the 2023 and 2024 editions of BBB, carnival groups such as Galo da Madrugada, Cordão da Bola Preta in Rio de Janeiro, Samba Schools Salgueiro and Grande Rio, the Ivete Sangalo and Claudia Leite groups in Salvador, as well as several São João parties throughout Brazil, among other attractions.

Also strong among influencers, the company has ties to Carlinhos Maia, Léo Santana, Michel Teló, MC Daniel, Jojo Todynho, Lore Improta, Gkay, among others. In 2023, Esportes da Sorte won the Ibest award in the “betting and lottery” category through popular vote.

OnaBet, another online betting platform of the group, has been in operation for over a year. Its market includes sports betting and casino. The platform has influencers such as Mirella Santos, Gabriel Farias (Zinho), Laís Brito, among others. Through Reclame AQUI, the platform has a reputation as “excellent” and a high rating.
