Half of the revenue will come from sports betting

Caixa CEO says that 'Bets' do not compete with lotteries

Caixa will be one of the main players in the market of 'Bets' (as operators are called in Brazil), according to the bank's CEO, Carlos Vieira. He believes that online betting houses do not compete with lotteries, and that the revenue from these new initiatives should be half of the revenue from the draws. The information was given by Vieira at a press conference this Thursday (22).

Caixa requested authorization to operate with sports betting and online games in the Betting Management System of the Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance. Vieira states that the betting house market tends to grow in the coming years and, therefore, Caixa wants to be present.

There is no competition with the lottery market

Today, Caixa has a constitutional monopoly on the operation of lottery games. "[Lotteries and betting] are not competitive markets. We are now operating in a new gaming and betting market. Speaking of strategy, we know that it is a very large market and regulation will bring more formality to the market," said Luciola Vasconcelos, president of Loterias CAIXA.

Caixa is investing in the betting market as a whole. This includes lotteries, online betting and other products. Vasconcelos says that there is still no large investment to start the betting operation, and that this amount will come together with the start of the operation.

Caixa expects that online betting houses, as well as new Caixa fronts, will represent 50% of the current revenue from traditional lotteries. The estimate is to reach this level when the segment is mature within the company.

"The Brazilian market tends to grow a lot in this segment and the bank wants to be present. Caixa will be one of the main players in this segment," said Carlos Vieira, president of Caixa.

Vieira says that games are linked to coexistence in society. According to the president, the emergence of bets has created a new dynamic, and there is no direct competition with Caixa lotteries. According to the executive, these are different proposals within the gaming universe.

Responsibility towards the bettor

Lucíola Vasconcelos states that the company has responsible gaming certification and that they will continue to focus on the bettor. According to her, there will be conditions, warnings and guidance for those who play at Caixa betting site.

The entry into the sports betting and online gaming market will bring a new audience to Caixa. Today, the consumer profile of lotteries is people over 45 years old, while the consumer profile of bets is Brazilians under 35 years old.

We are looking at an audience that we do not have any presence in and also thinking about the continuity of the lotteries themselves. If we have a very strong presence in 45+, we have to look at another audience. The female audience is also one that we do not have as much presence in as we would like, this is the focus that we are having now,” stated Lucíola.
