In the first half of this year, Loterias CAIXA raised R$12.3 billion (US$ 2.2bn), 19.0% higher than in 1H23 (R$10.3 billion (US$ 1.8bn)). Throughout 2023, CAIXA Lotteries sold a total of R$23.4 billion (US$ 4.2bn), which shows that even with the growth in Brazilians' income and the population's greater interest in games and betting, Caixa is not managing to advance its lottery business.
Loterias CAIXA are an important source of resources to foster Brazil's social development. In 1H24, R$4.8 billion (US$ 860m) was allocated to the Federal Government's social programs in the areas of social security, sports, culture, public safety, education and health. In addition, the return to society via income tax payments was 18.3% higher than that allocated in 1H23.
In relation to the net prize, R$4 billion (US$ 716m) was delivered to bettors in the period, compared to R$3.2 billion (US$ 573m) in 1H23.
This year, the Board of Directors of the state-owned bank approved the restructuring of the lottery area, transferring the management of all products to Loterias CAIXA, with an eye on the sports betting and online gaming market, as well as the relaunch of Lotex, which is expected to begin sales in October.
