CGS Recife 2024 to discuss regulation and other topics in the ‘Bets’ universe

CGS 2024 begins this Thursday (29), at the Recife Exhibition Center (Pernambuco), with focus on constructive dialogue, helping to promote a sustainable future for the Brazilian gaming sector. Among important players, highlights in the debates with Salsa, BMM, GLI, Maia Yoshiyasu, BETesporte and Casa de Apostas, in addition to the presence of the former special advisor to Finance, José Francisco Manssur, who led the regulatory process of the sector.

The event will be the first one for the iGaming and sports betting sector after the deadline set by the Ministry of Finance for ‘Bets’ -as operators are called in Brazil- to apply to operate in the country from 2025.

Several panels to discuss the future of the sector are expected to excite the audience. The first topic to be discussed will be “Advances in the regulation of iGaming and sports betting,” scheduled to begin at 9:10 am. José Francisco Manssur, partner at CSMV Advogados, who served as special advisor to the Executive Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance in 2023, was one of the main people responsible for leading the development of the rules for the fixed-odds betting sector in Brazil.

“Fairs like CGS, which aim to bring together the main players in the market and discuss new developments, contribute to the development of the segment, generating new ideas and bringing innovations that can be used in the future,” highlighted Manssur.

“In addition to talking about the advances and the importance of regulating this betting universe in Brazil, the moment demands that we address issues such as the unity of the entire segment for dialogue with society about the betting market in Brazil, since the industry is suffering strong attacks,” he stated.

“We must say that from 2018 to 2023, betting operators operated freely in Brazil. Now, there are mechanisms for collecting taxes and social allocations. Betting will be an economic activity that will generate jobs and boost the economy. In addition, regulation has brought elements to combat the negative effects of this universe, such as addiction,” he added.

In addition to Manssur, the session will feature Valter Delfraro Jr., executive of government relations and business development at GLI; Hugo Baungartnerr, COO of Aposta Ganha; and Fernanda Lima, lawyer at Maia Yoshiyasu Advogados. The mediator will be André Neves, CCO of Salsa Technology.

Other relevant topics also promise to stir up the event and will be discussed, such as:

- “Evolution of Casino Games and its impact on the eventual law on casinos and bingo,” with the already confirmed presence of Marzia Turrini, president of Digital, Security and Inspections at BMM Testlabs;

- “Evolution of online games and betting on sporting events and their impact on the regulation of the Brazilian market by the federal and state governments”;

- “Economic and social impact of lottery regulation, including territorial aspects,” among others.

The event’s mission is to promote significant and intimate meetings between renowned professionals, facilitating the growth and definition of professionalization standards in the sector, presenting new technologies and identifying businesses.

CGS Recife is expected to focus on regulatory issues in emerging markets and creating an environment conducive to the growth and development of the gaming industry in the region.

"Events like this are always important to keep us connected to the latest news in the industry. Being in contact with major market figures and observing industry trends, especially at such an important time as the one we are currently experiencing, is essential," highlights Hans Schleier, COO of Casa de Apostas.

"There are great opportunities for exchanging experiences and knowledge, so that we can all continue to evolve," he emphasizes.

It will also be an opportunity for agencies that operate in the market. Absolut Sport, a multinational with offices in Germany, the United States and Brazil, and which works with sports experiences, will be present with a stand.

The company has already been to industry fairs in Malta and London, and has produced projects for the Club World Cup, Super Bowl, Champions League final, Copa América and World Cup.

"Our goal is to talk to the important players who currently invest heavily in sports, both to broker sponsorship contracts and to promote activations, planning sports experiences for the partnerships they already have in the industry," highlights Fernando Paz, commercial director of Absolut Sport in Brazil, an agency that has also been an official partner of Conmebol since 2022, with operations in the Libertadores and Sudamericana.

BETesporte, in turn, is one of the nominees for the Best Sports Betting House award at the CGS Awards 2024. The category includes national and international candidates and the final result was decided by the public, in a popular vote. The winner will be announced at a gala dinner for 200 guests from the iGaming industry.

“It is an honor for everyone at the BETesporte Group to receive this recognition, the result of hard, daily work, alongside all our departments and also with users. We are happy to compete for the top prize at the CGS Awards 2024 and we will continue on this path to seek constant evolution,” highlights Vinicius Nogueira, CEO of BETesporte.
