Betsson filed its application for a license to operate sports betting and online gaming in Brazil this Tuesday (6). The process on behalf of the company Simulcasting Brasil, chaired by Andre Gelfi, will give the Swedish operator the right to operate in accordance with the rules stipulated by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance.
According to the SPA's plan, all companies that register with the General Betting System (Sigap) by August 20 will have their requests analyzed and, if everything is in order, will start operating in accordance with the rules established in the ordinances that regulate the activity in Brazil.
“We are committed, as we have always been, to operating transparently and within the rules established by the Brazilian government. Now, with the finalization of the regulatory agenda of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting and with all the rules quite clear, we are ready to start operating sports betting and online games in Brazil as of January 1, 2025,” says Andre Gelfi, director of Betsson Group in Brazil.
Founded in 1963, Betsson Group is a global leader in the entertainment industry and offers several services to consumers, including games, betting and information entertainment. With proprietary technology across its entire product offering, Betsson serves players directly (B2C) and indirectly on a B2B basis.
The company’s vision is to provide the best customer experience in the industry. Sustainability is an integral part of Betsson’s strategy, as taking responsibility for customers, employees and communities is a prerequisite for running a sustainable, successful business.
The Betsson Group employs over 2,000 people in Europe, South America, Asia and North America and is wholly owned by Betsson AB - listed on Nasdaq Stockholm.
Betsson has been operating in Brazil since December 2019, when Suaposta, chaired by Andre Gelfi and specializing in horse racing sports betting, was acquired by the Swedish parent company. Since then, Gelfi has been managing partner of Betsson Brasil, which continues to be one of the leaders in offering horse racing bets.
Now, with Betsson, there are ten sports betting and online gaming houses listed on Sigap: Kaizen (Betano), SPRBTBR (SuperBet), MMD Tecnologia (Rei do Pitaco), Ventmear (Sportingbet), Big Brazil (Caesars Sportsbook), NSX Brasil (Betnacional, Mr. Jack and PagBet), Apollo (KTO) and Simulcasting Brasil (Betsson).
