“Betsul is ready for the regulated market and we’ll work to provide good customer service”

During the 3rd Brazilian Sports Integrity Summit, GMB spoke with Betsul’s CEO Fernando Garita about the future of the Brazilian regulated market. The executive stated that at the beginning of formal operations, the sites will work to win over customers from bookmakers who have not applied for a license, and that Betsul will stand out by guaranteeing them a long-lasting relationship and not like a honeymoon, where only the first few weeks are good.

GMB – A few days ago you were at the Sports Integrity Summit, but the topic is not new to Betsul. What can you say about it?
Fernando Garita
– For us, everything that involves responsible gaming and sports integrity has been a fundamental part of our work. So much so that we recently received a new recognition as one of the best customer service providers. And we also launched a guide for players, so that users understand how it works and what each word on the website means. Many times, they log in but don't have a complete understanding. So, we dedicate some time to preparing information for them. Information and integrity are fundamental to the market.

Is it important to educate bettors so that they know what they are doing?
That's right. We want an active bettor, but we want them to have this knowledge. In the case of sports betting, there is a great advantage, because those who study, for example, the Brazilian Championship, will have more information and tools to make calculations and get interesting returns. Those who study more have better grades. And at the same time, we have all the information for other types of games, so that everyone is well aware of them.

We are always updating our portfolio and only offer certified games. Technically, we self-regulate before regulation. This is the best way for us to stay in the market. We are not a giant yet, but we are entering that list.

Betsul has filed a license application with the Ministry of Finance. What are your expectations regarding the process presented?
We present ourselves and hope that all companies have also presented themselves with consistent documents, so as not to make the Prizes and Betting Secretariat analyze documents in vain and waste time. We know that some do not have the financial capacity nor have they presented all the documents and are still looking for partners. I hope that the Ministry continues to meet the deadlines, as it always has, for the good of formal operators.

Is Betsul's documentation consistent and does it meet all the requirements of the Prize and Betting Secretariat?
Of course it does. Otherwise, we would not have submitted it. And we are open to any request or additional information. As I said recently and I reiterate, Betsul is open to regulators or other entities, to present how the sports betting and online gaming business works, and I will be able to personally receive any interested party. We want to share with everyone consistent information about our sector and the operations we carry out.

And it is also a way of showing regulators and even the press what our segment represents. We provide work for many Brazilians, we are partners with numerous outsourced companies and this already means that we collect a lot of taxes, both for venues and salaries. It is very easy for everyone to see how much we already contribute to the economy in Brazil.

What will the regulated market be like, starting January 1, 2025?
We will have two sides. One of them will be the sites that did not apply for licenses and that will have to lose their customers. These users will look for new bookmakers and there will be some aggressive marketing to attract them. Later, which is the main objective of sportsbooks, the retention of new customers, since it is a marriage. Everything is very nice on the honeymoon, but after that it is necessary to maintain the relationship for a long time, so that the user is happy.
