EBAC is developing a seal for online betting houses that meet the requirements established by the Ministry of Finance to mitigate gambling addiction. The idea of the resource is to clarify which companies are in compliance with all controls determined by the Treasury and are qualified to detect and assist gamblers with a tendency to addiction.
The ministry established that each online betting company must have its own Responsible Gaming policy and is required to implement parameters and systems for tracking problem gamblers. Gambling addiction already affects the lives of more than 2 million Brazilians, according to a study conducted by the University of São Paulo (USP).
With the deadline for regulation approaching (January 2025), sports betting companies will have to offer support and assistance to their customers.
“It is a serious problem that already occurs in other countries and, now with the gaming market expanding here, it is also reaching Brazil. However, just like other behavioral disorders, there is a solution with the help and support of specialists and professionals from different areas,” highlights Ricardo Magri, CCO of EBAC.
EBAC is prepared to operate in the sector and help companies provide the best service to their users who need support, as well as design and implement the best control structure to manage this risk,” adds the executive.
With experts working in the fields of psychology, communication, organizational management and compliance in the gaming industry, the Brazilian Support Company for Compulsive Gamblers seeks to implement the Compulsafe seal in betting companies approved by the MF/SPA, declaring that the company is in compliance with all controls determined by the ordinance published by the SPA, using its own methodology for verifying control environments, and also demonstrating that it is capable of detecting and managing gamblers with an unfavorable profile for gambling disorder.
Each online betting company must have its own Responsible Gaming policy and all of them are required, by the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA), to implement parameters and systems for tracking problem gamblers.
Another important point involves the mandatory creation of devices that the gambler himself can activate, such as loss limits, game time or even requests for temporary or permanent suspension. In all these cases, gamblers can be referred by the betting company's Customer Service and go through the professional referral process.
