The software, which offers a free and anonymous support tool for any player struggling with gambling problems, has now been launched in Portuguese – as BetBlocker hopes to attract over 200 million native speakers of the language globally.
BetBlocker has this year entered into responsible and data-driven gaming collaborations with Blask and Stake in June, as well as Casino Guru in July. Most recently, the charity received a pledge of support from Aristocrat.
Commenting on this latest update, BetBlocker founder and administrator Duncan Garvie said: "BetBlocker is the only free and anonymous blocking software to use. Users can go from downloading to blocking in under two minutes. But only if they understand the setup instructions.
"The truth is that most people who need BetBlocker support are in a state of crisis. They can't think clearly and trying to set up a tool like BetBlocker, with instructions they don't understand or only partially understand, presents a significant barrier to accessing that support. Each time we launch BetBlocker in a new language, we see user engagement in that language increase by between 4 and 10 times.”
The announcement of the Portuguese iteration of BetBlocker’s blocking software is timely, as it comes just months before Brazil’s online gaming and sports betting market opens up, opening up the software to the country’s 212.6 million Portuguese-speaking population.
Andrew McCarron, Managing Director of SBC, said: “A Portuguese-language tool that helps those struggling with online gaming will be very welcome both in Portugal and in the newly regulated Brazilian market. It’s a great service to showcase in our Player Protection Zone at the SBC Summit, and I look forward to hearing Duncan speak at our Player Protection symposium.”
BetBlocker is a UK-registered charity that offers users a free app that can unblock access to over 84,000 gambling sites and 1,500 gaming apps.
The service can be used anonymously and supports thousands of active users daily.
BetBlocker is exhibiting at the SBC Summit in Lisbon from 24th to 26th September (booth #PP170), and Duncan Garvie is participating in a panel on 'Gaming for the Common Good' this Tuesday (24).
