The 'Bets' (as the operators are called) market in Brazil reached new heights in 2024, and Aposta Legal gathered the main numbers and trends of the betting market in a comprehensive survey, launched in eBook format this Thursday (26).
The first edition of the study “Balanço das Bets no Brasil” (Balance of 'Bets' in Brazil) highlights data and reveals insights on the behavior of Brazilian bettors, who totaled more than 6.6 billion visits to betting sites in the country.
The number of visits was obtained based on a detailed analysis of the relationship between Brazilian bettors and more than 100 of the main domains of betting sites operating in the country. The survey used specialized tools to monitor the traffic of bets in Brazil.
Last October, betting houses in Brazil registered 970 million visits. This number was 14% higher than the volume of visits to the Globo.com portal, 28% higher than the combined traffic of the two main adult video content sites in the country and five times higher than the visits to Wikipedia and Chat GPT in the same period.
Also according to the survey, between January and November of last year, betting sites monitored by Aposta Legal Brasil surpassed the mark of 6.6 billion visits in Brazil, of which 99% — 6.61 billion visits — were registered on websites of legalized betting houses. However, websites of non-legalized betting houses accounted for 74.1 million visits.
"The 15 most visited betting sites in Brazil account for 80% of the total visits throughout the year, accumulating 5.33 billion hits. All of these brands operate in compliance with the regulations established by the Ministry of Finance," says the study.
The study also provides insights into the behavior of Brazilian bettors. According to the report, six out of every 10 bettors place bets at least once a week, while 8 out of every 10 bet monthly. The monthly expenditure is less than R$50 (US$8,19).
Also according to the overview, football leads the ranking of sports for betting, chosen by 7 out of every 10 bettors. The sport is followed by bets on e-sports and basketball. The study interviewed 2,010 people between April 5 and 25, 2024. The margin of error is 2.2 percentage points.
