The list includes sports recognized by international organizations such as the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), and the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD). It also includes popular sports in Brazil, regulated equestrian sports, and e-Sports recognized by the IOC.
Additionally, the regulation prohibits betting on non-professional sports competitions, events exclusively for minors, and youth categories, ensuring the protection and integrity of sports practices.
For the Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, the regulation marks a milestone in managing sports betting in the country: "With this measure, we advance in organizing the sports betting market, promoting transparency, legal security, and greater control over the involved sports. This strengthens sports as a whole and protects our athletes and sports entities."
According to the Minister, the work was developed based on in-depth studies of international practices. The goal is to ensure a comprehensive approach that includes as many sports as possible, preventing bettors from resorting to illegal platforms in the underground market.
The National Secretary for Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports, Giovanni Rocco Neto, also highlighted the importance of the regulation. “This initiative by the Ministry of Sports establishes a clearer and more efficient regulatory environment while prioritizing sports integrity and official recognition of the sports modalities,” said the secretary.
“Simultaneously, we are committed to creating and strengthening betting oversight structures, ensuring the integrity of competitions and combating result manipulation. The new regulation reflects this commitment, while also protecting the sports environment and promoting legality in the sector,” Giovanni added.
The list of authorized sports modalities will be continuously updated by the Ministry of Sports, which will assess the inclusion of new sports based on regulations and recognitions issued by official sports entities.
The regulation came into effect on January 1, 2025, except for Article 6, which will be applied starting January 1, 2026. You can check the full text of Portaria MEsp No. 125, dated December 30, 2025.
