GMB - What new developments has Pagsmile brought to ICE 2025?
Victor Jordão - As everyone knows, the payments market in Brazil is now regulated. We’ve undergone several changes and are keeping up with them. We are an institution regulated by the Central Bank of Brazil (BACEN), and in addition to meeting regulatory demands, we are launching new products.
This year, we are introducing account opening solutions for individuals and businesses, as well as working on new solutions for the betting market and other industries. We have a challenging year ahead, but we remain committed to regulatory compliance and offering the best solutions for our clients.
What are your opinions about the event’s move to Barcelona after so many years in London?
It’s been an interesting change. For participants, it’s become easier. London was a more isolated location, with more complicated logistics and higher costs. Barcelona, being more central in Europe, simplifies logistics and reduces costs, making the event more accessible for all players.
What are Pagsmile’s plans for this year, especially in the Latin American and Brazilian markets?
We are focused on Brazil, creating new products such as account opening solutions for individuals and businesses. We have GML solutions and are also developing a KYC verification system for end users, which is a key demand from our clients.
Additionally, we are working on solutions for companies in the events sector and the benefits industry. In Latin America, we already have over 150 million integrated payments in our solution, with a single API, and we plan to further expand our infrastructure and technology.
In your opinion, what are the technological trends in your sector for this year?
The main trend is respecting regulatory demands. The Central Bank of Brazil has been doing an excellent job, and it’s important to follow all market guidelines. In the payments sector, legal limits and changes are constant.
For example, PIX, which in just a few years became the most widely used payment method in Brazil, reflects a trend we also see in other Latin American countries like Argentina, Chile, and Colombia. These emerging markets have a lot of technology yet to be explored.
Is the new regulation beneficial for everyone, including Pagsmile?
Absolutely. Being in a regulated market ensures that everyone plays by the rules. In the case of betting operators, for example, it’s necessary to respect not only marketing but also the customer experience, such as age verification and CPF (ID) checks.
We have a duty to prevent malicious transactions and ensure that end users are playing fairly. This benefits the company, the betting operators, and the government, which also generates revenue from this.
Will Pagsmile participate in major upcoming events like SBC Rio and BiS SiGMA in São Paulo?
Yes, our calendar is packed. We will be at SBC Rio in February, BiS SiGMA Americas, and also at Money 20/20 in Amsterdam.
