The meeting was attended by Bacen's executive secretary, Rogério Antonio Lucca; the chief of staff of the executive secretary, Mariane Santiago de Souza Nogueira; the chief of staff of Bacen's director of Economic Policy, Eduardo José Araújo Lima; and the deputy head of Bacen's Department of Competition and Financial Market Structure, Ricardo Pereira de Araújo.
“We are addressing issues that are relevant to the sector and have a direct impact on the country’s economy. The blocking of illegal websites that has been carried out by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) is just one of the important actions that guarantee transparency and security in the betting market,” stated Plínio Lemos Jorge, president of the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL).
“With Bacen, this action can be projected and become even more efficient, based on the adaptation of payment method companies that currently strengthen the operation of illegal operators,” he reinforced.
The Brazilian government has spoken out about the need to take down sports betting and online gaming websites, but the measures are ineffective, despite the fact that more than 1,100 websites have been blocked.
The market itself points out that one of the most effective measures is to strangle the illegal market by blocking financial transactions between bettors and bettors. Since only companies licensed by the Central Bank can operate in the regulated iGaming market, the solution that the industry points out as the most effective is precisely the payment method.
