Brazil’s Sports Ministry opens public consultation for inclusion of eSports in ‘Bets’ regulations

The National Secretariat for Sports Betting (SNAEDE) of the Ministry of Sports is making a public consultation available as of this Monday (17) with the aim of collecting contributions from civil society, experts and other interested parties on the inclusion of the eSports modality in Ordinance MEsp No. 125/2024. It regulates the sports modalities and sports practice entities authorized to bet on real sports-themed events.

For the National Secretary of Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports, Giovanni Rocco, the participation of society aims to ensure an updated regulatory environment aligned with the best practices of the sector, with greater transparency and broad participation of society.

“With the growth of the eSports sector and its economic and social impact, we seek to understand which modalities civil society envisions for the ordinance and which criteria they suggest should be adopted,” Rocco  stated.

“With the responses obtained, the Ministry will be able to evaluate adjustments to the current ordinance, with the aim of aligning it with society's expectations.”

The public consultation will be conducted through a form containing a set of questions designed to support the analysis of the feasibility and impacts of the inclusion of eSports.

The form can be accessed through the Participa + Brasil platform and will remain available until March 5, 2025 through this link.
