SPA trains prosecutors of Espírito Santo on iGaming and bank fraud

The Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) of the Ministry of Finance participated last Friday (14) in the Consumer Seminar in the Digital Environment, promoted by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Espírito Santo (MPES). With the objective of training prosecutors and civil servants on online gambling and bank fraud in the digital environment, the event was held in Vitória (ES).

Representing the Ministry of Finance, the deputy secretary of SPA, Carolina Yumi de Souza, spoke about the federal government’s oversight of fixed-odds betting companies. Among the SPA’s main areas of activity are the fight against illegal websites, bet manipulation and money laundering – in collaboration with the police and public prosecutors of the states, the Federal District and the Union.

The Secretariat also acts against the offering of bets on prohibited events and the provision of illegal types of bonuses.

“Coordinated action between the various government agencies is essential, especially in the defense of bettors. Events like this provide a rich exchange of information and experiences, which contributes to the improvement of the regulation of the sector and to the development of increasingly effective mechanisms for protecting the population and combating illegal companies,” said Carolina Yumi de Souza.

In January alone, 75 inspections were carried out on betting operators. Two thirds of the actions were to combat the actions of influencers who advertised illegal betting sites.

The issue of responsible gambling and the protection of bettors also receives special attention from the SPA. Since it is an interdisciplinary topic, the Ministry of Finance has begun collaborations in this regard with the Ministries of Health and Sports.

In addition, the SPA works together with the Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom), through a Working Group (GT), and has a cooperation agreement with the National Consumer Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP).
