CPI of 'Bets' meets again after Carnival

The CPI of ‘Bets’, which began in November to investigate online gambling, will meet again after Carnival. According to its chairman, Senator Dr. Hiran, the committee's work has not stopped and the team has been dedicated to analyzing the documents and information received about the financial transactions of those under investigation. The expected date for the end of the work, if there is no extension, is April 30.

We are not stopping. We are analyzing all the documents, the information that comes from the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf), the Federal Revenue Service and the control agencies and we will inform all members so that we can set the committee's priority agendas,” stated the chairman of the committee.

Among the requests related to financial information already approved by the committee are several requests for financial intelligence reports to Coaf, which constitutes a breach of confidentiality. The list includes influencers such as Deolane Bezerra and businessmen from the betting sector, such as Fernando Oliveira Lima, known as Fernandin OIG.

We are certainly going to do very important work, mainly to protect people, to prevent foreign exchange evasion, to make these bets actually pay taxes that will generate application of these resources in health, education, and security. They are making a lot of money and are either not paying any taxes or paying very little,” said the senator.

Committee

The CPI of 'Bets' was installed on November 12 and its rapporteur is Senator Soraya Thronicke. At the end of 2024, the senator reported attacks against the image of the committee. Soraya said she had been threatened and stated that the committee would go all the way with the investigations.

For 2025, the senator reported that one of the focuses is to listen to influencers who use their social media channels to promote online games. The expected date for the end of the committee's work, if there is no extension, is April 30.
