Brazil is one of the countries that are part of the list of affiliates. In November of last year, São Paulo hosted the event at the WTC Sheraton, during the last stage of the BSOP 2024, which officially recognized poker as a mind sport. Executives from IMSA (International Mind Sports Association) were in the country to vote and recognize, unanimously and definitively, as a game of strategy and mental skill.
Currently, Europe has the largest number of representatives, with 23, followed by America, with 10. To complete the ranking, there is Asia, with 10 countries, Africa, with three, and, to top it all off, Oceania, which includes Australia.
In South America, in addition to Brazil, other countries such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay make up the list of countries affiliated with the WPF. The United Kingdom, Canada and Germany, three of the main poker markets in the world, are also members.
“Our goal is to build and consolidate a global sports structure for poker. Exchanges with other countries and other markets are very important for the development and growth of mobility in various areas and spheres,” says Leonardo Cavarge, CEO of the World Poker Federation.
The work of the WPF also includes cooperation with governments and national and international institutions with the aim of promoting the development of poker. The entity promotes and encourages the practice of poker in all its forms, ranging from the best-known, such as Texas Hold’em and Omaha, to less common forms, such as Badugi and Short Deck.
