This edition is driven by Playtech’s commitment to promoting a safe and fair gambling experience, while continually raising standards in the global online gaming industry. The latest version of the study includes significant updates and findings from a survey of 2,500 respondents in Latin America.
Participants from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Colombia shared their experiences as online gamblers, providing a comprehensive overview of public perceptions of the Latin American market, including previously unpublished insights.
Brazil and Peru officially regulated their betting markets this year and, naturally, player perceptions are changing. The new regulations have boosted confidence in the industry, with only 25% of respondents avoiding gambling due to concerns about fraud and gambling-related harm.
Peru recorded the highest rate of frequent gamblers across Latin America, with 92% gambling monthly, and 80% of respondents supporting stronger regulations on advertising for the betting industry.
In Argentina, 77% of respondents support stricter regulations on betting advertising, in line with other countries, while 88% support stronger age verification policies on betting sites due to challenges with underage gambling online. In Chile, 63% of respondents feel safer using a legal and registered platform, although only 15% consider themselves fully up to date with current legislation.
Colombia, which has updated its regulations in recent years, emerged as the most mature market among those surveyed. The importance of fast and reliable payment providers was highlighted by consumers, with 58% of Colombians citing this as the crucial factor when choosing a betting platform.
Mor Weizer, CEO of Playtech, commented: “We are delighted to launch our third report ‘Responsible Gaming: Consumer Insights and Trends in Latin America’. Since the launch of the first edition in 2020, our goal has been to provide the industry with a deeper understanding of the region’s specific needs and challenges as the online gaming sector continues to mature and evolve with new regulations. This latest edition provides valuable insights into the nuances of the industry in Latin America. Markets such as Brazil and Peru present significant opportunities for growth and innovation.”
“Playtech is excited to play a key role as a technology partner in contributing to the sustainable growth of the online entertainment sector. By sharing these insights and fostering knowledge exchange within the industry, Playtech is committed to supporting the long-term success of the sector in Latin America, while fostering a more responsible and consumer-focused gaming environment,” he added.
The report reveals that gaming platform security has become the top priority for bettors across all countries surveyed when it comes to feeling safer when gambling online. Ensuring a platform is legal and properly registered was identified as the most critical factor for a safe experience.
