Caixa confirms entry into the sports betting sector, estimates revenue of US$2bn per year

The president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Carlos Vieira, confirmed the entry into the electronic sports betting sector, maintaining the same governance standard as lotteries. In October 2024, the bank estimated an initial revenue of R$12 billion (US$2bn) per year.

According to the president of Caixa, the institution will operate with the same governance adopted in lotteries, a sector in which it has operated since the 1960s. “We will enter this market in a balanced and conscious manner, maintaining the governance standards already established,” stated Vieira during a press conference on Caixa's financial results in 2024.

Predicted launch date and financial impact

However, in October of last year, Caixa had already expressed interest in launching its own sports betting platform.

The service is expected to be available to the public in April 2025. However, Vieira did not confirm the information.

First, the bank projects that revenue from sports betting will account for around 50% of Caixa Loterias' revenue. As the market matures, this number could grow significantly.

The current forecast is that Caixa's new 'Bet' - as operators are called in Brazil - will generate annual revenue of approximately R$12 billion (US$2bn).
