Working Group on bettor’s health holds first meeting and defines agenda to be followed

The Ministry of Finance coordinated this week the first meeting of the Interministerial Working Group (WG) to address issues related to the health of gamblers in Brazil. It was held at the Ministry's headquarters in Brasília and was attended by representatives from the four bodies that comprise it: the Ministries of Finance, Health and Sports, in addition to the Secretariat of Social Communication of the Presidency of the Republic.

The first of the five meetings already scheduled by the WG served to organize and begin to build the work agenda. The remaining meetings will be held every two weeks, initially at the Ministry of Finance. The last one is scheduled for May 22, given the initial operating period of the WG, which is 60 days, extendable for the same period if necessary.

The health of bettors is one of the priority points in regulation and, as it is a multidisciplinary topic, the work of this WG will be essential for us to make progress on this issue,” said the Secretary of Prizes and Betting Regis Dudena, highlighting that the SPA has already been carrying out actions aimed at protecting the mental and financial health of bettors.

One of the actions to be developed will be the creation of the Gamblers Self-Exclusion Platform, which will integrate the database of self-excluded citizens and people prohibited from betting – the first item of the proposed Regulatory Agenda for the years 2025-26, which is in public consultation.

A Cooperation Agreement is also being drawn up with the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) to deal with the financial health of gamblers and to be able to detect when a person begins to spend beyond a level that can be considered healthy.
