GMB – What innovations did Pay4Fun bring to SBC Summit Rio?
Leonardo Baptista – This year, we are highly focused on technology, which is our key differentiator. We introduced some new features within the Pix solution, such as the new push for CPF Mismatch. This means that if a user tries to make a payment using another user’s account, we immediately block the transaction.
We also have the payment initiator, which we consider to be Pix 2.0—a true revolution in the Brazilian financial market. Additionally, if everything goes as planned, by June 16, we will launch recurring Pix, a model that promotes responsible gaming.
How will recurring Pix work?
It will function like a subscription, similar to Netflix. For example, a user can set up a recurring payment of R$100 (US$ 17,5) every 15th of the month to their chosen betting site. If they decide not to use it, they can withdraw the amount. This benefits both the user, who can plan their spending, and the betting operator, who can forecast their revenue more accurately.
With betting regulations taking effect in January, how is Pay4Fun adapting?
For Pay4Fun, the transition was smooth. We have always aimed to align with the Central Bank and were the first payment institution authorized and regulated by Bacen. When the regulation came into effect, we were already prepared.
Our operators did not face migration issues since our structure was already in place. Now, our focus is to work alongside regulators to combat the illegal market and strengthen the regulated industry.
The Brazilian market is highly competitive. What sets Pay4Fun apart from the competition?
We are preparing for the land-based market because we believe casino regulation is only a matter of time. Our payment solution is already ready to integrate Pix directly into slot machines.
Currently, we operate with this model in state lottery terminals, such as the lotteries of Paraíba and Tocantins. Additionally, our focus remains on technology, compliance, and anti-money laundering measures.
How does Pay4Fun approach user protection and responsible gaming?
We implement measures such as blocking payments made from third-party accounts. While some competitors process and then refund transactions, we do not even allow them to happen.
The operator is immediately notified and can inform the user. This approach has increased our operators’ conversion rates by 20%. Since we have been aligned with the Central Bank since 2022, we always strive to stay ahead in security and compliance.
Pix 2.0 already represents a major advancement in the payments market. Do you believe something even more innovative is coming next?
The Central Bank has an incredible team constantly working on new solutions for Pix. The payment initiator, which we call Pix 2.0, will revolutionize the market. Currently, a Pix transaction can take 40 seconds to a minute, but with this new technology, it will be completed in just two seconds.
What is your vision for the future of the iGaming and betting market in Brazil?
Land-based gaming is the next step. The government has recognized the positive impact of online betting in generating jobs and revenue, and this trend will extend to physical casinos. I believe land-based gaming regulation will happen by the end of this year or early next year.
Will Pay4Fun participate in major upcoming events such as BiS SiGMA Americas in April?
Yes! We are always present at the industry’s leading events. After SBC Rio, we have SAGSE in Buenos Aires and, of course, BiS SiGMA Americas, which will take place at Expo Transamérica.
