Unico shows the positive impact of identity verification on security of ‘Bets’

Unico, an identity validation network, is participating in BIS SiGMA, one of the most important events in the iGaming and sports betting sector in Brazil and Latin America, which takes place until today (10) in São Paulo. At the summit, the company reinforces its commitment to building trust, presenting customer success stories and the positive impact of the use of identity verification technology in the fixed-odds betting and online gaming market.

The law mandated the use of facial biometrics to authenticate users' identities, aiming to block access for individuals legally prohibited from gambling — including minors — and to prevent fraud attempts.

“This requirement brought to the fixed-odds betting market the need to find an efficient KYC (Know Your Customer) solution that ensures secure processes, such as Unico’s, which has nearly 18 years of experience in highly regulated sectors and a strong network effect, having already validated 99% of bettors previously,” explains Fernanda Beato, Sales Director at Unico.

Given this expertise, 14 operators have switched their KYC providers to Unico in the past three months. The IDCloud platform's technology is transforming the market by ensuring transparency, regulatory compliance, and security for both operators and players, with highlights such as:

  • Identity authentication via facial biometrics to prevent fraud and ensure simple and secure access to games;

  • Document reuse, providing a fast and seamless experience for bettors;

  • A robust database with information on 99% of bettors, speeding up verification processes without compromising security;

  • In addition to complying with Law 14.790/2023, the Unico IDCloud platform provides valuable insights for fixed-odds betting platform managers to make better business decisions.

At BIS SiGMA, Unico also contributes insights and discussions for the development of the sector.

Fernanda Beato, Executive Sales Director, participated in the panel “Building Long-Lasting Partnerships: How Operators Can Impact the Bettor’s Journey,” alongside clients Felipe Maia, Content Manager at Blaze, and Guilherme Figueiredo, Country Manager at Betano - Kaizen Gaming, as well as Hugo Baungartner, CEO of Polanco Consultoria, with moderation by Thomas Carvalhaes, Country Manager at Stake.

Founded in 2007, Unico is a technology company building a safer and more trustworthy world by validating people’s real identities. The company is backed by investors such as SoftBank, General Atlantic, and Goldman Sachs.

In 2021, it became a unicorn, valued at over USD 2.6 billion; and in 2024, it was recognized as one of the most innovative companies in Latin America by Fast Company. More than 800 Brazilian companies — including the largest private banks, retailers, fintechs, e-commerce sites, and industries — trust Unico and its comprehensive identity verification and protection platform.

Unico’s technologies include facial biometrics for 100% certain identity authentication; enhanced security layers for liveness detection; and identity and credit card ownership verification for online purchases.
