ANJL meets with the Minister of Justice to discuss issues related to the regulated market

The president of the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), Plínio Lemos Jorge, met with Minister Ricardo Lewandoswki this Wednesday (2) at the headquarters of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. Accompanied by federal deputy Isnaldo Bulhões, the meeting aimed to discuss the concerns of the Brazilian sports betting and online gaming sector regarding the huge clandestine iGaming sector.

The direction of the regulated market of betting houses, the initiatives to combat illegal websites and the impact of taxes on the so called 'Bets' industry were some of the topics raised by Plínio Lemos Jorge with the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski.

At the meeting, Plínio was accompanied by federal deputy Isnaldo Bulhões and presented to Lewandowski some of the concerns of the sector, especially regarding competition with the huge clandestine betting industry.

On the occasion, the president of ANJL also spoke about the latest data presented by the Ministry of Justice on the vulnerability of young people to gambling activities.

We reiterate our concern with this survey involving children and adolescents attracted to illegal 'Bets' sites, which, as we know, do not offer safety devices and represent a serious risk to minors,” said Plínio Lemos Jorge.

We also talked about the initiatives that are being adopted by the federal government to dismantle this organization that operates in the country without authorization and that, in addition to causing losses for bettors and authorized companies, prevents the collection of billions of reais in taxes,” he explained.

The Ministry of Justice and Public Security has been demonstrating the same concerns as the sector and Lewandowski admitted that the fight against illegal operations must continue and that the associations that represent the sector have a lot to contribute by indicating ways to work together with the government to combat illegal sites.

Although he did not present any measures in this regard, the minister left the Ministry's doors open to hear the gaming and betting industry's concerns about consolidating a transparent, serious market that provides security to bettors.
