Aware technology is impartial (without racial or gender bias), secure and accurate, with a super-fast enrollment and authentication process and accuracy of over 99% in verifying people of all races and ethnicities - without bias - according to tests carried out by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States, a global reference for this type of test.
"Biometrics are more user-friendly and secure than traditional passwords, or even one-time link verification, according to what online users themselves stated in a survey we recently conducted. The technology captures unique and exclusive characteristics of each bettor and ensures a frictionless experience for the bettor, increasing their confidence in the service," comments Mario Cesar Santos, global VP of solutions at Aware.
Enhanced security and prevention of online fraud
To deliver enhanced security and prevent fraud, the Aware platform adds an extra layer of protection to ensure that only authorized users can access their accounts, a feature that blocks fraudulent activities such as third-party identity theft.
On the online sportsbook side, Aware’s biometric technology performs a proof-of-life check on the bettor using unique biometric identifiers to eliminate potential financial losses caused by any fraudulent infiltration capabilities.
Consolidated benefits of biometric technology for online betting
Registration for user verification: Biometrics are used for KYC (Know Your Customer) to verify the identity of users – including legal age, tax status, absence from money laundering or politically exposed persons lists, and geolocation – during account creation or login processes.
Users are required to register their biometric data (voice, facial features, etc.) during the account registration process to establish a secure and unique identifier for future authentication. Biometrics can also be integrated with traditional authentication methods, such as passwords or PINs, to create a multi-factor authentication system, increasing security.
Secure account access: Betting platforms can integrate biometric authentication for personal computers and mobile devices, allowing players to access their accounts securely.
Payment authorization: In addition to complying with industry regulations, biometric authentication can be used to authorize high-value transactions, adding an extra layer of security to financial activities within the online betting platform. Additionally, players can be required to use biometrics to verify their identity when making withdrawal requests, preventing unauthorized access to funds.
Elimination of duplication: The online gaming and betting industry can leverage Aware biometric authentication technology to enhance security measures and reduce instances of duplicate accounts and “bonus abuse” (fraudulent behavior by players). For example, players can be asked to take a simple selfie or use a webcam during the registration process or at specific checkpoints to ensure they are the legitimate account holder.
Aware’s biometric authentication and verification technology will be showcased at booth O77 at BiS SiGMA Americas 2025 from April 7-10 at the Transamerica Expo Center in São Paulo.
