The Senate Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission (CCJ) will analyze the PLS 186/2014 project only in February, after the Congress recess. The bill was sent to the committee after voting on Senator Magno Malta's (PR-ES) request that was approved (44 to 19 votes) at the Senate plenary.
The first step in the analysis of the law is the choice of a new speaker for the project, which will also happen in February. After the nomination, the discussions on the constitutionality of the project and its consequences to the Brazilian society can take place. For Senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI), legalizing gambling is the chance that the country will keep the money generated by the market
"Millions and millions of Reais (Brazilian currency) are taken from our
country through online betting that has grown today. It is time for the country
to take advantage of a situation that already exists and that many want to
cover their eyes."
The PLS 186/2014 bill had already been approved by the Special Committee on
National Development in November and forwarded to the plenary that decided to
send the text to CCJ for further evaluation.
The expectation is that with the legalization of games of chance, a revenue of
20 billion Reais will be generated only with the
collection of taxes.
