Fecoljuegos to launch the Games of Chance Observatory

Next October 25 and 26, Gaming Market Colombia (GMC) will take place in Bogota bringing together the gaming industry of the country. During the GMC will be launched the first Observatory of the Games of Chance in Colombia that will allow updated numbers on the behavior of the sector. The Colombian Federation of Games of Chance Entrepreneurs, Fecoljuegos has developed the online gaming chapter, which will promote the growth of this new segment of the industry.

The Minister of Finance and Public Credit, Mauricio Santamaría Cárdenas, the president of Coljuegos, Juan B. Pérez Hidalgo, and the president of Fecoljuegos, Evert Montero, will lead the first Meeting of Colombia Gaming Entrepreneurs. "This is a two-day event that will firstly set up technical tables to identify opportunities and challenges in the gaming industry. On the second day it will offer presentations from prominent speakers from the public and private sectors," said Montero.

The GMC brings together more than 400 people, including public and private employees and special guests. The agenda includes lectures and panels on the transformation of the gaming industry, the contributions of the industry to financing Colombian health, responsible gambling, digital economy and online gaming, regulation and fight against illegality, among other issues.

It should be remembered that the gambling industry currently contributes more than US$ 510 million to public finances (including operational rights and VAT) in a country where 59% of the population likes playing. Coljuegos calculates that due to illegality, they don’t collect other US$ 116 million. "This is a fight that is being carried out by Coljuegos and in which we, as businessmen, support," he said.

In Colombia, gaming is a state monopoly. The operation, administration, and regulation of national gaming is in the hands of Coljuegos, an industrial and commercial enterprise of the decentralized State of national order and linked to the Ministry of Finance. The resources received from the exploitation rights are mainly transferred to public health.
