Falls of up to 50%

Spanish Lottery sales plummet in Catalunya

The legal insecurity has generated the exodus of at least 1,300 companies that moved their businesses to another autonomous community in Spain. The uncertain scenario has also impacted part of the gaming sector, where there has been a decline of up to 50% in Spanish Lottery sales. The Christmas campaign represents about 70% of the sales, what means that a big decline could strongly affect it.

Among those who have chosen not to buy this lottery are numerous sports clubs and other groups, which usually distributed to their supporters. The State Lottery Administration in Catalonia is very concerned about the drop in sales reserve that has been recorded just two months after the draw that lead the Children of San Ildefonso.

According to data from the Association of Lottery Administrations of Lleida, in this region, the reserves have fallen to between 30% and 50%, and affect especially sports clubs and other groups that in previous years bought tickets and distributed them through participations as a way to finance their activities.

Hermogenes Montalvo, president of the Association of Lottery Administrations of Barcelona, has pointed out to Catalunya Ràdio that "one can not speak of a general boycott, but it is true that we noticed a break in the issue of Christmas Lottery participations."

David Masip, president of the Association of Administrations of Lleida, added that in localities of its region as Mollerussa, the decrease in sales reaches up to 50% compared to the figure of previous years.

The Christmas campaign represents about 70% of the sales of the lottery administrations, reason why a decrease of this magnitude could call into question its viability.

At the same time, the owner of La Bruixa d'Or, Xavier Gabriel, has decided to move his headquarters to Nafarroa and its fiscal office to Madrid from the town of Sort (Lleida), after which, he said, his sales would have increased by 275 %.
