Tom Waters, Partypoker Director

"We will definitely be part of the Brazilian market after regulation"

(Exclusive GMB) – Partypoker Director, Tom Waters, traveled directly from UK to accompany the second edition of the WSOP Circuit Brazil, beeing held until tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Ibirapuera Park Biennial in São Paulo. GMB talked to Waters during the tournament, where he gave his impressions of Brazil, the process of gaming regulating and revealed that the company intends to operate in the country with a varied range of products.

Have you ever been to Brazil? What is your impression of the country and Brazilian’s way of being?
I love Brazil. I've already been in Brazil, and this is my second impression of the country. São Paulo is a wonderful city, I really like the people, the buildings, the Bienal in Ibirapuera Park, everything is very beautiful. I am very happy to be here.

Brazil is still working to legalize gaming. Have you followed this process? How important is a country like Brazil to have a regulated market?
I am following the process and I think it is very important. A regulated market is much more important than one that is not. It is safer for investors, for businesses and even for players when we have regulations.

Once the legalization process is finished, is Partypoker interested in operating in the country?
Of course. It is very important for our future plans. Once Brazil becomes a regulated market, Partypoker will definitely be part of it. In all of Latin America, where there is a regulated market, we want to be part of it.

What products does the company intend to operate in Brazil? Do you want to offer more than online poker?
Besides Partypoker, today we own Sporting Bet and BetPool that already operate in Brazil. After the legalization of the activity, we will continue with the operation of these and we will enter with all our products. We want licenses to operate all of them.

Are you already thinking about the structure that will be necessary for the company to successfully operate in Brazil?
It depends a lot on how the legislation will come out in Brazil. If Brazilian law obliges us to have a local operation with building, employees, everything here we’ll proceed that way. But if legislation only sells a license and we can operate from outside the country, it will be different. It will depend a lot on how the country’s legislation, now you can not answer that.

What is the expectation of Partypoker in relation to the gambling public in Brazil? Do you think the company will attract many players? What will be your biggest differential?
Yes. We’ll enter the market to diversify the brand with all our products. We want to win the confidence of the Brazilian players with our expertise of diversified operations to suit any modality that the public wants to play.
