Sports take center stage at G2E 2017

Sports are really taking center stage at this year’s edition of the G2E in Las Vegas, putting on the table two hot topics, Sports Betting and eSports. Specially the sports betting legalization debate has gained steam as the US Supreme Court prepares to see the case for lifting the national ban, expected to come up with a decision by the end of June 2018.

In order to address this issue, the American Gaming Association (AGA) has prepared an important list of conferences and seminars, featuring key actors from both the gambling and sports industries.

"As the legalization of sports betting continues to grab national headlines, G2E 2017 will bring in the nation’s top experts to address what a legal, regulated sports betting market will look like for our industry,” said Geoff Freeman, CEO of AGA.

‘Sports Betting in Indian Country: Leveraging a Seat at the Table to Protect Tribal Interests’ has been the first session held yesterday at G2E. With National Indian Gaming Association’s (NIGA) recent decision to join the campaign to legalize sports betting, the major players in the gaming industry are now represented at the table as we discuss an area that has a major potential impact on the future growth of gaming in the US.

NBA legend Earvin "Magic” Johnson will also be at the show to talk about the issue of legal and regulated sports betting. The basketball icon and former Los Angeles Lakers star will deliver a keynote address together with Freeman at the show tomorrow.

"Magic Johnson’s experience on and off the court has helped shape his successful business career,” Freeman said. "I look forward to talking with him about the future of sports betting.”

eSports is also playing an important role at the show as it is one of the areas casinos are looking at to drive the next generation of players. Steve Doty, AGA spokesman, said this year the association is putting "new emphasis” on the "success and viability of live esports events for casinos of all shapes and sizes.”

eSports will be discussed in depth at sessions including Esports Transforming the Resorts, The Five Biggest Challenges in Monetizing Esports and Esports – The Kids are Alright.
