Conajzar awards sports betting licenses in Paraguay

The National Gaming Commission of Paraguay (Conajzar) decided to grant the operation of sports betting, throughout the national territory, to the company Daruma Sam SA, one of the two that were submitted to the tender. The institution disqualified the Jockey Club of Paraguay. It is estimated that the business will generate US$2 million per year.

According to local media ABC Color, Jockey president Gustavo Pedrozo confirmed that Conajzar disqualified his bid and awarded the business to Daruma. He indicated that he has already received the respective notification and that he analyzes with his lawyers the legal measures to be taken.

Daruma is a company that currently operates in the field of sports betting under the name of Apostala. For the new business, the State requires a minimum amount of US$140,000 per month, but a fee of 21% applies to profits, so the collection will have variations. It is clarified that the minimum figure will suffer readjustments every 12 months.

Conajzar’s president, Javier Balbuena, expects that by the middle of next year the benefit for the State will climb to at least US$525,000 per month, and also said that the business allows a monthly collection of around 2 million dollars.

There are several companies that until this award exploded experimental sports betting in the country. Among them is Daruma and another one named Jem. Both have a legal dispute over the Apostala brand.
