IGT, Scientific Games and Intralot are interested in Brazil's Lottery

According to the specialized media Gambling Compliance, international industry leaders IGT, Scientific Games and Intralot are aware of the government's decision to privatize 'Lotex' or 'raspadinha', and have already expressed interest in keeping with the Brazilian lottery . It is expected that an official announcement will be published next month, followed by a tender in October.

Two years after Brazilian Congress first passed a law creating a new form of instant lottery — Loteria Exclusiva Instantânea, or "Lotex" — the process to introduce the product now appears to be entering in a definitive stage. A formal bidding notice for Lotex is expected to be published as soon as next month, followed by an auction taking place in October.

Rivals Scientific Games and Intralot are thought to retain an interest as well. "We have a presence in Brazil already and we are monitoring this opportunity expecting the final terms and conditions to be released for our final assessment,” said Chrysostomos Sfatos, Intralot’s head of corporate affairs. The company has offices in Belo Horizonte city.

The Lotex concession process is also significant as a potential starting point for the further development of a stunted Brazilian gambling market that is currently limited to traditional lottery games and betting on horse races. Meanwhile, there are two proyects bill beeing analyzed for the future legalization of other forms of gambling such as casinos, bingos and sports betting.
