Brazil: Most of society wants gaming legalization

An unpublished national survey of the Paraná Research Institute, commissioned by the Esplanada Column, reveals that the majority of society wants the legalization of gaming with the return of bingos and casinos. Among men, for example, the majority approve the return of the activity: 57.7% want the return of the casinos and 56.8% are in favor of the bingo halls. In 4 of the 5 age categories -between 16 and over 59- wins the group that wishes to return the gaming to the country.

Despite the slight approval bias, the figures show that the society is divided: 45.6% are in favor and 43.4% are against the return of the bingos. In relation to casinos, 45.7% in favor and 45.5% against.

Women have more resistance. Only 35.2% of them are in favor of the bingos and 34,1% support the casinos. Unlike the men, who mostly approve the return of the gaming: 57.7% want the return of the casinos and 56.8% are in favor of the bingo halls.

Social factor

According to Murilo Hidalgo, president of Paraná, there is a social and religious factor against the legalization of gaming; And most of those who approve are middle class.

Social Factor 2

According to Hidalgo, low-income people think that the poor will lose money and only the rich will win. And the contrary action of the Catholic Church and of the evangelicals influences the decision.
