Single ticket won US$758.7 million Powerball jackpot

The winning numbers for Wednesday night’s jackpot: 6, 7, 16, 23, 26, and the Powerball was 4. Winners must have all five numbers as well as the Powerball.

The jackpot had been growing without a winner since June 10, and is the second-largest in U.S. history. The largest was US$1.6 billion in 2016, which was shared by three winning tickets. Yesterday’s contest was reported to be the largest grand prize won by a single lottery ticket in US history.

The odds of winning are only about 1 in 292 million. The twice-a-week game is played in 44 U.S. states, as well as Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Winners can choose to have the jackpot paid out in installments over 29 years, or take a lump-sum cash payment, which is expected to be worth about US$443 million. About 25% of winnings will go to federal income tax, and state taxes may be added on top of that.
