Occhi said that the Ministry of Finance has two studies that deal with the future of Lotex, Caixa's arm for instant lotteries: one anticipating privatization and another, the concession. "Lotex is a decision that falls outside the scope of the Treasury," he said.
"If there is a concession or privatization, this is
still on the agenda. Two studies are done and the decision will be taken by the
Ministry of Finance," he said, without citing deadlines.
Known as "raspadinha” (scratch card), the lottery allows punters to know
the result right after the ticket is purchased. The BNDES, contracted by Caixa
to coordinate the privatization of Lotex, published in November the
announcement to contract services to carry out the operation.
Caixa wants to administer and privatize the company, but the Ministry of Finance intends to do an auction so that the "raspadinha” is managed through a concession and believes it can raise R$ 4 billion (US$ 1.3) in an auction.
